We, the undersigned Members of the Sweden-Armenia Friendship Group of the Swedish Riksdag, strongly condemn the recent large-scale military attack by Azerbaijan against multiple targets in the sovereign and internationally recognised territory of the Republic of Armenia. There are reports of intensive artillery shelling and drone attacks targeting the Armenian provinces of Syunik, Gegharkunik and Vayots Dzor with many casualties as the result.
We call on the Swedish government and the international community to strongly condemn these attacks and to meet this unacceptable use of violence with unequivocal response. The Swedish foreign minister has made statements calling for immediately stopping all military activities and that “dialogue is the only way to sustainable peace”. This is not enough. The aggressions must be strongly condemned.
